This is an introductory course on theories of Acupuncture. Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based reviews of protocols used in clinical studies. The safety issues and adverse effects will be discussed based on current scientific literature. Locations of a set of points will be demonstrated through class illustrations and small group practice sessions.  This course will familiarize students with the common acupuncture points for upper and lower limb problems, common points for headaches, and common points for neck and back problems. Presentations will include clinical trials done on these common conditions and the protocols evaluated. Evidence-based reviews of conventional treatment will also be discussed. There will be a sufficient amount of time in small group practice sessions for students to become competent in point locations and needling techniques for problems in these regions. Cases from common musculoskeletal problems will be presented. Some special techniques will be illustrated to deal with common MSK problems they encounter in their practices. Relevant special techniques will also be discussed.
